Company Culture Trends 2021

How on track is your company with 2021’s renewed focus on company culture?

Imagine the ideal workplace, the place where you are spending more than one third of your life at. The dream would be employers and employees working happily and productively together. It should not be just a dream; it should be your reality.

The term ‘Company Culture’ can be defined as a set of shared values, goals, attitudes, and practices that characterize an organization.  This broad concept can be interpreted in various ways and most likely are difficult to define in your company.

Large companies are increasingly trying to define and improve their cultures using keywords such as: mutual respect, people orientated, shared values, passion, fandom, shared vocabulary, and open communication channels.  These keywords manifest the following meaning:

• Mutual Respect and People Orientated – Creating a workplace where employees and employers have mutual respect, through acknowledgment of the person behind the position, understanding that the job title does not define the person, and each person has different approaches towards solutions.

• Shared Values – Values should not be only seen in the company’s formal corporate profiles and states, these values are now intentionally developed to get the employees to buy in, share the value and feel it.

• Passion – Companies are hiring employees with passion, passion for the industry they are working in, passion for others in their company and passion to contribute towards their own success as well as for the company and its product or service.

• Fandom – Employers are now firstly focusing on their employee fandom. When your employees are fans of your company, they will wear your logo, they will sell your service and products and they will grow your client pool.

• Shared Vocabulary – A form of new communication is developed; the company and employees are creating exciting new words to describe different aspects of their work and they are sharing the same vocabulary. To the bystander it may seem strange but develops creativity and a culture of inclusivity within the company which is an attractive quality to clients.

• Open Communication Channels – No more formal hierarchy in which employees should communicate, the highest-level employee and the lowest level employee are now communicating directly. Communication is not lost between levels; the CEO now has knowledge of ground level activities and better decisions can be made.
